Saint Saturday (one day late!)

Sophie received an extensive education, thanks to her brother, Louis, 11 years older and her godfather at Baptism. Himself a seminarian, he decided that his younger sister would likewise learn Latin, Greek, history, physics and mathematics—always without interruption and with a minimum of companionship. By age 15, she had received a thorough exposure to the Bible, the teachings of the Fathers of the Church and theology. Despite the oppressive regime Louis imposed, young Sophie thrived and developed a genuine love of learning.
Meanwhile, this was the time of the French Revolution and of the suppression of Christian schools. The education of the young, particularly young girls, was in a troubled state. At the same time, Sophie, who had concluded that she was called to the religious life, was persuaded to begin her life as a nun and as a teacher. She founded the Society of the Sacred Heart, which would focus on schools for the poor as well as boarding schools for young women of means; today, co-ed Sacred Heart schools can be found as well as schools exclusively for boys.
In 1826, her Society of the Sacred Heart received formal papal approval. By then she had served as superior at a number of convents. In 1865, she was stricken with paralysis; she died that year on the feast of the Ascension.
Madeleine Sophie Barat was canonized in 1925.

Awkward and Awesome Thursday

I know this is late in the day, so you'll probably be reading this on Friday....but it's still Thursday!

I was in front of a bunch of people while swinging my little brother on a swing set at a graduation party and then he smacked right into my face because I underestimated how far the swing would go....twice. O_o (sorry, run on sentence)

Talking with people and then running out of things to say. (I hate this!!)

While driving with my dad, I stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake while parking, which resulted in smashing a bush...yeah...that did not go over well.

Saint Saturday

Saint Maria Goretti
Born in Corinaldo, Ancona, Italy, on October 16 1890; her farmworker father moved his family to Ferrier di Conca, near Anzio. Her father died of malaria and her mother had to struggle to feed her children.
In 1902 an eighteen-year-old neighbor, Alexander, grabbed her from her steps and tried to sexually abuse  her. When Maria said that she would rather died than submit, Alexander began stabbing her with a knife.
As she lay in the hospital, she forgave Alexander before she died. Her death didn't end her forgivness, however.
Alexander was captured and sentenced to thirty years. He was unrepentant until he had a dream that he was in a garden. Maria was there and gave him flowers. When he woke, he was a changed man, repenting of his crime and living a reformed life. When he was released after 27 years he went directly to Maria's mother to beg her forgiveness, which she gave. "If my daughter can forgive him, who am I to withold forgiveness," she said.
When Maria was declared a saint in 1950, Alexander was there in the St. Peter's crowd to celebrate her canonization. She was canonized by Pope Pius XII in 1950 for her purity as model for youth.
She is called a martyr because she fought against Alexander's attempts at assault. However, the most important aspect of her story is her forgiveness of her attacker -- her concern for her enemy extending even beyond death. Her feast day in July 6

A bit of randomness

This kind of a random post, but I thought I'd give you guys an update on what's going on in my life. So, last Tuesday I finished 8th grade, which means that I'm done with homeschooling and elementary school, foreva! Tonight my grandparents are coming all the way from Florida, and we haven't seen them since last summer. We also finished Spring Cleaning yesterday, which is great since we had been intensely working on it for about a week. Also, in A&A Thursday, I posted that I tried out for advance choir. I just got the results, and I got in! The competition was pretty tough, but I was the top scorer in all of the girls who tried out. YIPPEE! A huge thanks to my family and friends who supported me, especially my BFF Lindsay who helped me perfect my dance so that it was perfect!

Also, thank you to our wonderful followers! I remember that just last month we only had about 12. We really appreciate it. If you want us to follow your blogs, just leave your blog link in the comments below, and we will check your blogs out.

Kayleigh just posted our super cool giveaway, so be sure to check it out! I'm dying for these:

On a side note, I am going to go shopping with my aunt on Memorial Day weekend, so if you know any great steals at Forever21, Claire's, Old Navy, AE, or whatever, let me know. Especially F21 and Claire's, cause I have a budget and I need lots of inexpensive accessories and clothing. Thanks in advance!

Something else that is super exciting is that Elaine over at Clothed Much is doing a Reader Request for me tomorrow, so be sure to check it out!

Happy Friday girlies!

Awkward and Awesome Thursday

Hello girlies! It's my turn for Awkward and Awesome Thursday this week, so here goes. Also, go say congrats to the fabulous lady who started A&A Thursday!

Having a friend come over to my house the other night, when he was still recovering from his stomach bug. She picked him up and he immediately started bawling because he was cranky and cried "I want my mommy." It was really awkward.

Going to an advanced choir practice for auditions that were today. (Please note: for this high school advanced choir, you had to tryout and be picked, instead of just being scheduled for it) When I went in the other day, I ended up being late because the doors were locked and I had to go around, so I came in the room when they were about half-way through the song. Everyone stared at me.....

As I was walking in the choir room door the other day, a guy who was practicing the dance for the songs smacked me right in the face.....that was awkward for us both.

Doing advanced choir tryouts, not missing a single move during the auditions, AND singing really great. Everyone said that I was the best dancer in the room *blush* (I'm not sure if I got in yet, but I'll let you know when I find out tomorrow/later tonight)

My grandpa and grandma coming from Florida to visit us for the weekend! Totally awesome!

Finishing school last Tuesday!!!!!

Finishing Spring Cleaning which we started last week on Wednesday :(

Stephen Colbert's parody of Friday by Rebecca Black. So awesome!

That's it. Also, another giveaway coming up....tomorrow. Stay tuned because Kayleigh is going to announce the really cool things that we are giving away!

Saint Saturday (one day late)

Sorry I'm late! I forgot it was my turn. :P Instead of choosing the saint from Saturday the 14th, I choose a more well known feast day on the 13th.
(taken from Saints: A Year in Faith and Art by Rosa Giorgi and

Our Lady of Fatima

Our Lady appeared to three children, Lucia, Jacinta, and Francisco between May 13th and October 13, 1917, asking them to pray the rosary for an end to World War I, for sinners, and for the conversion of Russia. When the youngest failed to keep this secret, many people came to the later apparitions, and the children were arrested by the authorities. This did not prevent the Virgin Mary from appearing again and performing miracles. She gave the children three secrets. The first was revealed in 1927 and concerned devotion to the Immaculate Heart. The second was a vision of hell. The third was revealed in 2000 and spoke of a "bishop in white" who was shot by soldiers with bullets and arrows. The feast of Our Lady of Fatima was added to the church calender in 2002. Francisco died in 1919, and Jacinta in 1920. Lucia, who became a Carmelite nun, died in 2005 at age 97.

Remember our giveaway!! It ends tomorrow at midnight. Only 9 entries so far.

AND IT WAS IN MY WINDOW!!! I freaked out!! I went in the garage and got a fishing net (go ahead...laugh) and a file folder and tried to trap the bee (Its name is Albert) against the glass and he kept getting madder and madder and I finally got him in the net and out side and the I had a brilliant idea! I said, "I'm gonna put him in the empty fish tank!"  (its gotta lid)  Nick, my oldest little brother wouldn't help me (Didn't want to hurt poor little Albert) so I got Patrick who is 5 to help me.  It didn't work.  We had him in the cage but the lid wouldn't close so... yeah.  Plan ruined Albert escaped.  Y'all didn't get pictures.  sorry.

Modest Swim Suits

I was browsing some online stores for a new suit this summer and came across these modest (yet fashionable!) swimsuits on DownEast Basics.

Sausalito Tank--Kiwi Stripe

Cuteness?? I think so. (Note that this is only for the top swim piece)

Santa Cruz Bikini Skirt

These bottoms would match perfectly with the top and still make a modest tankini.

Beachside Tank--Black Dots
And they all have mix and match tops and bottoms. Check it out!

The Comment Challenge

As Catholics/Christians, we are highly encouraged to do acts of charity for others. In the blogging world, there aren't really any acts of charity you can do for your far away friends that you have never met. About the only thing you can do for your bloggy friends is to leave a comment. In small blogs, comments are very sparse. Even in big blogs, heartfelt comments are very rare. So, I am starting the comment challenge. We'll start out small, and then later on get to some big comment challenges. So, if you are ready to join this challenge, this is this week's challenge:
Comment on 5 of your favorite blogs. Make the comment heartfelt and not just a "your outfit is cute."
So, the challenge starts today, and ends on Sunday 5/15. Leave a comment on this post if you have completed this, I will trust you. After 5/15, I will use and that commenter will win an interview/feature. You can choose.
What are you waiting for, get commenting!

Happy Mother's Day!

Wishing all of the mothers reading this a Happy Mother's Day. I read earlier this morning that Mother's Day is not for celebrating mothers, but rather for celebrating all they've done for us. So, a special thank you to my own mom! She's always there to help me up when I fall, talk to me when I'm lonely, and she's great at giving awesome advice. She totally deserves this day of relaxing.

My two older brothers made a pull-apart sticky bun , goetta (also called grits, very popular around my town), and scrambled eggs for breakfast.

Pull apart sticky bun

For dinner, my dad, two younger brothers, and I are making manicotti, salad, garlic bread, and THE best pie ever, Fluffy Lemon Pie (see below)

And, as a present, my brothers, Dad, and I pitched in together to get her what she wanted the most, this chair. She's wanted it for a long time, and she needed it for when she sat outside to watch my baby brother play, so she could lay down and relax. Too bad it's not the right weather for using it. Why does it have to be cloudy and cold on Mother's Day?

So, what did you do for your mother on Mother's Day?

Also, don't forget to enter our giveaway....only 6 entries so far!
